Warehouse Insulation and Ventilation Design for Chennai's Climate
Chennai's hot and humid tropical climate poses a challenge for maintaining comfortable temperatures in industrial warehouses and factories. Excessive heat affects both worker productivity and stored inventory. Deepika Builtech utilizes advanced thermal engineering to optimize our warehouse construction in Chennai, lowering indoor temperatures by 5°C to 8°C without relying on active HVAC systems. 1. High-Performance Roof and Wall Insulation Insulation is the first line of defense against solar radiation. - Glass Wool Insulation: Economical and effective, glass wool with aluminum foil backing is installed directly under Galvalume roof panels. It has low thermal conductivity and offers sound dampening during heavy rains. - PIR & PUF Sandwich Panels: For facilities requiring strict temperature control, polyisocyanurate (PIR) or polyurethane (PUF) panels (50mm to 100mm thickness) are used for wall and roof cladding. In warehousing hubs like Oragadam and Sriperumbudur, retrofitting standard warehouses with thermal insulation takes about 2 to 3 weeks and costs approximately ₹40 to ₹70 per sq.ft. Design loads comply with wind load parameters of IS 875 Part 3. 2. Gravity-Driven Natural Ventilation Continuous airflow is essential for moisture control and heat dissipation. - Ridge Ventilators: Installed along the roof ridge, these gravity-driven ventilators allow hot air rising to the ceiling to escape. They operate continuously without electricity and are designed to prevent rain entry. - Turbo Ventilators: Wind-driven aluminum turbo vents are installed at intervals on the roof. They spin under light wind speeds, creating a vacuum that extracts hot air, fumes, and moisture from the workspace. We combine these ventilation formats with custom cold storage solutions for controlled setups. 3. Air Changes and Side Wall Louvers To ensure effective cross-ventilation, fresh air must enter at lower levels. We install adjustable louvers along the lower sidewalls, drawing in cooler air as hot air escapes through the roof, maintaining comfort on the work floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much temperature drop can be achieved with passive ventilation?

A well-insulated and ventilated warehouse can lower indoor temperatures by 5°C to 8°C compared to external temperatures.

What is the difference between PUF and PIR insulation?

PIR offers higher fire resistance and thermal stability compared to standard PUF insulation panels.

Do turbo ventilators require electricity?

No, turbo ventilators are completely wind-driven and require zero electricity to operate.
